Lowering MB size when rendering

Can anyone help me with telling me how to lower the size of a file when rendering it? I recently put together my first music video using Vegas, and the MB size was much too high after it rendered. On Movie Maker, there is an option, where you can lower the size, before you save the movie. Is there a similar option on Vegas?

The filesize is based primarily on the resolution and the bitrate. You can play with those to make a smaller file. What is your final output format?

Video for Windows(AVI)

I just got Vegas a few days ago, and I have always used Movie Maker, so I have no clue how to really use it yet, aside from the basic editing.

How do you want to watch it--on what device?

It would be on Windows Media Player...

Then you would select Window Media (.wmv) as your template.

So that will lower the MB size?

When I would use Movie Maker, your average 3 1/2 - 5 minute music video would come off between 15-30MB.

On Vegas, I put together a 2 minute trailer and it came out at 400MB.

Yes, Windows Media is a compression codec. It will be considerably smaller!

I know nothing about Movie Maker, sorry.

Hey thanks a lot Jay.

It worked man. I just imported 2 minutes worth of footage to render just to see, and it came out to 7 MB. Whew. I was worried there for a second, but I am sad to lose the outstanding picture quality. The quality is still great, but the quality in the other format was better than you would see on a DVD.

Oh well, thanks again Jay. I appreciate it!!

You're welcome.

It's a trade off, as so manythings are--file size or picture quality.
