LPCM and 5.1 surround on burned blu ray

So, I just had a fab experience with the new platinum 10. Rendered almost a 3 hour edited movie to a dual layer Blu Ray disc. Pop the disc into my Sony Blu Ray player and have an excellent picture. However, for some reason, I'm not getting digital 5.1 surround sound. I analyzed the disc using a BD analyzer tool and confirm that the track is indeed this:
Audio: English / LPCM Audio / 5.1 / 48 kHz / 4608 kbps / 16-bit

Now my receiver is an old Kenwood about 10 years old with 6.1 sound and is connected to the Blu Ray by way of coaxial. I've played other store bought blu rays and the receiver picks up dts and dolby digital. I've confirmed the settings on the blu ray were for dolby digital and dts. My question is, do I need some sort of LPCM decoder or new receiver to pick up the 5.1 since my receiver is so old? I must admit I've been more out of the loop lately than I would like. Any help greatly appreciated.

Ahh, I think I just found the answer to my own question on an article I just read:

LPCM 5.1 surround audio can be passed through any version of HDMI (i.e. version 1.0 to 1.3), but will have to be downmixed to stereo for transfer over an optical/coaxial digital audio connection.

Now I just need a receiver that can take an hdmi input! Time to bust out some cash.

Really? I'll have to test that statement when I get time. I thought Optical/ SPDIF carried 5.1 raw PCM as well.

More importantly, the DVDA Studio version that packs with VMS10 does not encode 5.1 to BluRay. That is reserved for the Pro version.

Also, you posted on a Pro forum. There is a separate forum for Vegas Movie Studio owners.

Thanks for the reply. I actually burned it using VMS10 from the timeline and the settings were with 5.1 PCM. That's why I was confused my receiver wasn't recognizing it. However my Blu Ray disc analyzer does confirm the audio stream is on there. Think my prob is the connection and the receiver. Anyhow, didn't realize there was a seperate Vegas Pro versus Vegas Movie Studio Pro. Will post on there in the future. So far with the upgrade to 9 gb in RAM the program worked beautifully, Editing, rendering, and authoring. Hopefully no glitches will come to light!
