Luminance keying

Is there a luminance keyer in Vegas? I've used the chroma key video effect, but I'm not seeing a way to make it act as a luminace keyer, say to just key out black.

Another Vegas user I know uses the "add" compositing mode to do this, but though this kinda works, for the stuff that isn't black, the luminance of the composite goes up versus the original, based on this function.

So I'm thinking there must be a better way...

Thanks for any info.

Use the eye dropper in chroma keyer to key out the black or white

Or use luminance mask set sliders if you require 2 tone clip

What I do depending on what fx i require i addluminance mask straight on and use the sliders for tones and the colour corrector high for paper colour mid for tones and low for object colour if you have new blue pencil added this gives u a good architectural style

To do what xfx said, add the "Sony Mask Generator" fx to the event.

I just did this last nigh with taking some FX that were FX on black & make alpha-channel PNG sequences for use.

Track 1 & 2 are needed. Parent 2 to 1. Change Track 1's mask setting to (multiply) mask (or whichever it is, defaults to Alpha Channel) Put your event that needs keyed on 1, same event on track 2 directly below. Apply the mask FX to event on 1. Defaults to lumance. Put the event that is behind the key on a new track, track 3, below 1 & 2 & no parenting. Then you can adjust the setting of the key on track 2's event to see how it looks..
