M-Audio BX* Studio Monitors w/Audigy Platinum2 Card?

I'm new at this so ....does it make sense to spend the money on studio monitors to use with the Platinum2 Card? It looks like I'd have to find/make cables that have a 1/4" plug at one end and a mini plug at the other. I don't have the bucks to buy a Layla24 Card and the monitors. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

I would go for the best soundcard you can afford and get a good set of headphones. Use whatever speakers you currently have or can afford after these purchases until you can get some better monitors. The goal is accuracy which an audigy card is incapable of. You shouldn't mix with headphones, but you can use a *good* set to check panning, placement, balance, overall tonality, phase issues, etc. Then check your mixes on as many systems as you possibly can. My $.02 ;-)
