I need help,
"SONY STUDIO PLATINUM STOPPED WORKING" (SUITE EDITION)

PC SPECS:
Asrock Extreme 4 Z77 Chipset BIOS p80 (up to date)
Ivy Bridge i5 3570 "k"
16 GB Corsair Venegence 4x4 setup
GTX760 4GB superclocked (EVGA)
Plexitor SSD 256 GB Extreme Series
Seagate 1 TB HDD
ASUS 144hz 1080p monitor
HP 1600x900 2nd monitor

I just bought Movie Studio 13 Platinum (Suite Edition) for Pro Video Editing, and this program has been headache after headache... I edit game plays and narrate them to post to YouTube, I was originally doing this work with Windows Movie Maker with its few things to work with and knew that i wanted more, more transitional effects more special effects, more everything, so i went with Movie Studio 13 Platinum (Suite Edition). I installed it twice so far, the first time was on Windows 8 pro with Win Media center (64-bit) and this software kept randomly crashing.

So i decided to do a Fresh install of the Windows 8 Pro O.S. to see if that would fix the problem, even upgraded to win 8.1 fresh install with the same issue, I will work for a half hour maybe a hour, maybe two, but I always get "SONY STUDIO PLATINUM STOPPED WORKING". I have learned to save my work every 3 minutes for fear of losing everything which had happened the first couple of crashes.
There is No reason for this to be happening, my systems stable and fresh installed which suck but did it to be sure it wasn't my PC. Help is needed. Please help me find whats wrong. Thank you!

Every time i get a crash its the same information in the error box:
App Name: Sony Movie Platinum
App Version: (Version 13.0 Build 879) 64-bit
Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xC0000005)

Make sure you have the following installed:
- most recent video driver
- most recent version of Apple's Quicktime Player (very important because Vegas uses some of its shared libraries)

(Sometimes, when people do a clean install, they overlook this.)

Well, I do have QuickTime's most recent version installed, but, as far as Nvidia's NEWEST driver. Does not run well on my card, only the previous versions. Every driver up until Nvidia latest release worked flawlessly, so i have reversed to the second most recent, i know its not hardware related because any other Nvidia driver, even beta works. So i guess my only other option at this point is to wait for an updated build of Sony's Movie Studio. Unless anyone else has any other suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.
I have done many preference changes to see if anything helped including not using my Nvidia GTX760 for accelerated help. Even defaulting to default options...

PS thanks for the response, was thinking no one had any idea what to do.

By any chance is your processor overclocked? Do you have appropriate cooling and are you monitoring your core temps? How high are they getting?

CrzyFox wrote on 3/11/2014, 2:16 PM
yeah i am running 4.5 stable, using a h55 Corsair water-block and its very efficient with cooling, I check weekly on windows event reports for issues, and i know WHEA errors are what show an unstable overclock with windows 8-8.1. Other than the processor no other overclocking, and i did troubleshoot with stock speeds aka no change. I never crash during rendering, (unless its a per-render to see if effects work as intended)
I am very baffled cause i am very knowledgeable with PC's and definitely windows OS troubleshooting, i dont often post to forums because i usually figure out what needs to be done, but this baffles me. I see real player is in ultil's download section, is this needed? i really dont like putting useless program on my PC but if thats whats needed i will do it. I would like to get back to work on my projects. When I bought MSP13 i did not expect this. Beginning to regret my buy... Thanks for all the help! i would like my money to be well spent ya know? :|

Interesting enough, I have exactly the same problem.

I've been trying to render a gameplay (recorded with "Action!") with my narration and Movie Studio 13 Platinum keeps crashing in random places.

It's been rendering films from my camera fine though.

I have Windows 7 64-bit and a GeForce 550Ti, so it's a different configuration. So it's likely the fault is in the program, not drivers.

I tried to render my stuff for hours. I tried different formats, with GPU and CPU only, but it keeps crashing before it is half way through. I think the problem might be in decoding of the input file rather than encoding the output.

Well, I don't even care any more, I've given up. I only want to confirm there is a problem.

I'm sorry, but Movie Studio 13 has been the disappointment of the year. User interface experience is worse than it was in Movie Studio 11, and now rendering crashes. So with the excellent interface gone and now the rendering unreliable, it has nothing to offer that competition doesn't do better.

Still, I'll be waiting for patches. Without much hope.

I concurr with everything you just said. I WANT TO CONFIRM THERES A BUG IN THIS SOFTWARE. (MSP 13) and i may have found a slight work around which sucks because features have to be turned off.
STEP 1: disable gpu acceleration ( not that it works right in the first place)
STEP 2: turn compatibility on and for WINDOWS 7
Best luck with these options. HOPEFULLY we see an updated build soon.... PS i still havent got the extra plugins from the FX website, what a rip off......
