M25U - monitor -> Vegas 7

Is anyone using the M25/M15 as a Firewire device to output to a broadcast monitor for color grading etc?? Is this possible? The specs on the site are not very clear and the supplier here won't order one until I do - bummer.

With what I have read of Vegas 7 so far, it would seem that editing the m2t footage doesn't appear to be a problem and hence want to start investigating the above method.

Forum search doesn't seem to throw much light on this subject.

Many thanks

You can't pass HDV via firewire to an external device, if that's what you're asking.
If you want to monitor HD with Vegas, you have a few options:
1. Secondary monitor output, resolution is dependent on vidcard and monitor combo

2. BlackMagic Design Decklink feeding either component or SDI to either an LCD with component or CRT with SDI, or you'll need a front end for an LCD for the SDI input.

3. Downconvert HDV to DV and monitor via Firewire.

Thanks Spot, I think you are gauging my needs accurately.

I have a SD monitor currently being fed via an Canopus ADVC 110 via firewire for monitoring. At the moment I am editing HDV using the Connect HD conversion. With the advent of Vegas 7 around the corner, I obviously want to start with HDV on the timeline which greatly simplifies the workflow.

I am trying to find the most cost effective solution to monitor without changing my monitor (will do at a later stage).

Would the Decklink HD Extreme be the card to go for in my case??

Again, many thanks
