I'm rendering out 4 min m2t files that were shot on a JVC camera in widescreen format. It's taking forever - 45mins+ per 4 min clip - is there anything I can do to shorten the time. I am rendering to an external drive & I am using the generic DV setting.
What have you done to them? color correction? level changes? Are you going to .m2t and if so why? If you are going from m2t what are you encoding to? SD or HDV?
I assume you are using Vegas right now: Did you accidentally change the track level? maybe the clip level for opacity? That is an easy mistake to make and will get you if you don't look for it. Are these HDV files or SD?
Opacity is 100% - I don't know any other thing I could have changed - I just dropped the files into the timeline - I did read on the board about the opacity hting, so I checked that.
If by SD, you mean Std Definition, yes, they were shot in widescreend format, but not HD.
A-What kind of machine do you have? CPU, RAM, HD drives?
Sony Vaio 1.7 GHz Intel Pentium processor, 1GB RAM, external dvbox hard drive connected via firewire
B-Is the m2t file HDV? 1440x1080?
File is 720x480, listed as MPEG2-TS in media pool
C-What version of Vegas? Vegas 6.0d or Movie Studio/Video Factory?
Vegas 6.0a
D-What are your Dynamic RAM settings (Options/Preferences/Video tab)
16MB
E-What is your target avi setting? NTSC DV
NTSC DV
F-What are your Project settings?
720x480 / 29.97 fps NTSC / Rendering qual - good / Motion Blur Type - Gaussian
F: Going from MPG to AVI, the Good setting may not be the best. If you set it to Best, though, it may take longer. Depends on your tolerance/demand for perfection.
Edited: I just rendered 4 minutes from MPG to DV widescreen on my 3.2 HT pentium and it took 2 minutes, 15 seconds. Check to make sure you have a lot of space on your target drive that is not fragmented. Could be something strange about the m2t, maybe long GOP or something related.
With your computer, going from DV AVI to MPEG-2 should be about 4x real time. Try taking a standard DV AVI file and render a ten second loop and see how long it takes. It should be about 40 seconds. If it takes much longer, then we need to look elsewhere.
If it takes about this amount of time, then I think we need to focus on the nature of this "m2t" 720x480 file you are starting with. It may be that Vegas is somehow being forced to do some significant transcoding. Don't have any ideas right away on why that would be, at least not off the top of my head.
