m2t unsupported

Downunder wrote on 9/10/2008, 3:49 PM
Hello from a newie to this great forum

Using a Sony HVRZ7P I have both recorded in (captured) the video from tape to my hard drive using the proper vegas HD capture window (not the DV one) and I have also copied the files from the recorded camera flash drive. All the video files are on my hard drive but when I come to import the m2t video files into my Vegas Pro8b timeline a message comes up saying it is unsupported.

I have checked in Vegas "fileIO plugins" there is an mt2splugin but no m2tplugin are they different?

This is my first filming using an HDD camera and it is for a client so your help would be most appreciated.

Thank you

FYI My VegasPro8b is a purchased and registered copy
I am using Windows XPpro SP2

When you say "import the m2t video files" what do you mean exactly?

If you simply drag and drop from the explorer pane to the timeline, do you get the same message?

Have you tried opening the m2t files in the Trimmer Window?

I use m2t files in Vegas 8 all the time, without a problem. I'm running XP SP3, but also had no probs back when I was XP SP2.

Cheers

Though I have not done much real work with them, I too, have had no issues with m2t files. I shoot with an HVR-S270U (big brother to the Z7).

The files I copied off the CF card worked just fine in Vegas Pro 8.0b and WinXP-SP2.

Might be worthwhile re-installing Vegas. You'll lose personalized settings, but it's the easiest and quickest way to repair it. My installation has an 'm2tsplug' directory that contains an 'm2tsplug.dll'. No m2tsplugin anywhere...

Thanks for your reply(s)

Ok After I captured the footage (which was showing in the capture window) the file opened in the Project Media window. when I tried to drag the file to the timeline (and tried the Trimmer too) I got the error message the file (.M2T) "is an unsupported format " .

Now when I go to the Media Project window and open with "all media files" it does not show me anything in my captured folder, I have to change the drop down to "show all files" I can then see the captured files (in Explore it only shows me the folders) when I click on the files to open in Media Project I now get this message "an error has occured while opening one or more files. Most likely file is corrupt or of an unknown format".

There is over two hours of footage The two files (on my hard drive) show over 12GB each and footage was played back on the camera to do some checks all was fine. So there is footage.

Any ideas? The files show .M2T not .m2t surely that would not be an issue.

I have tried to rename the file to .mpg but it always shows me" filename".mpg.M2T I cannot get rid of the .M2T

Look forward to any help

Thanks

Still looks to me like Vegas Pro 8.0b is not installed correctly/fully - it can happen.

I just tried both importing media and drag&drop on timeline - no problems. File extension upper or lower case makes no difference.

Do try a re-install of Vegas - what do you have to lose? If it doesn't work, raise a support request with SONY.

Downunder, do you by any chance have a small clip, that does not work for you, that we could try and download to test in our configs?

Thanks Tom I will have to try your suggestion and do re-install of Vegas. Do you suggest that I clean up Vegas files from the registry?

Gee been using Vegas since the begining, never had issues with DV now first time with HD causing me a headache.

Oh well got to keep smiling:-) video work always has highs and lows

I had the same issue with my Panasonic and it came down to an incompatibility with the codec in Vegas 8 Pro but another forum member posted a link to a beta codec download from Sony.

This will be fixed when Vegas Pro 8c is rleased BUT in the meantime try searching this forum for a thread with AVCHD in the title posted by me Newhope. It has the link to download the codec which should fix the problem.

Hey thanks Newhope for your help.

I located the file you suggested, renamed the old one put the new (beta) one in,
but sadly it has made no difference. Back to square one.

Cheers for beers (I need one)

On XP-Systems it usually helps deleting the "Shared Plugins" folder (a subfolder of "Program Files/Sony"), then in the folder "Program Files/Sony Setup/Vegas Pro 8.0" doubleclick the file "Vegas_80enu.msi" and start the repair process.

Hope this helps.

Interesting.

The only times I have ever heard this happening is either on the trial, or a hacked copy of Vegas, neither of which have the capacity to work with M2T.

Any chance that the outfit you bought this version from is a little less than honest?

I know that the AC3 plugin doesn't work on most of the above mentioned programs. Try rendering a AC3 file and see if it goes. If not then it's most likely an illegal copy of some kind or another.

Did you happen to get DVDa included with this version?

hvae you installed any codec packs or new products recently? It's possible, even likely that if you have, it's corrupted the links for MainConcept. Seen it happen many times.

Thanks marco I will be doing this.

Hey Blinky I have read this but I can assure you that my version 8 (with DVDA) is an upgraded (full) version from 7, downloaded from the Sony (vegas) site re my account with them.

I rebuilt my system so I installed 8 on a fresh system (no 7 files).

I think I will download it again and do a fresh install with it.

Thanks Sir Spot for your reply

Software that was installed after Vegas pro8 are:

DVDvideosoft (converts avi to flash)
Super ( video converter)
Juicer 3.2
Vidoelan (VLC media player)
Ligos indeo
AVI Synth 2.5
Camtasi 5
Free studio manager 3.1 (video converter)
Sound Forge 9

Are any of these a known problem?

Just wanted to mention that m2t clips from my Sony HVR-Z7 work perfectly in Vegas. This is an NTSC version rather than the PAL version you have.

Ok All

I have just uninstalled 8b and cleaned up the registry and the shared folder. Installed 8c and............ "we have lift off", all is working now, I can import the M2t files onto the timeline.

Thank you all for your time, interest and advice, it was appreciated.

Also a big thank you to Sony for the latest upgrade. Vegas is a great product.

Until next time.

"I have tried to rename the file to .mpg but it always shows me" filename".mpg.M2T I cannot get rid of the .M2T"

Are you displaying all file types in Explorer? (Tools, Folder options, View, then uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types').
