Mackie Control confusion

We are looking at getting a Mackie Control, but frankly, I'm confused about what it will do for us. This would be going into a live multi-track rig that we currenly have. The soundcard is two Delta 1010s. We're using Vegas 5. My question is, right now when I'm recording, using the fader on the audio track has no affect on the level of signal. So, if I'm using the MCU, will I be able to control the level of signal coming into Vegas 5?

Also, can I route all tracks to two identical stereo busses, have them show up on the 1010 as physical outputs, and use those for recording to DAT, and for a Control room monitor?

Thanks very much!

live it wont do much but cause more problems for you.
Nothing worth any beans will allow you to change the level between your converters and vegas. This level MUST be set before it reaches the converters.

If vegas had HARDWARE autoinput I guess there would be some more options as you could set the trims optimally pre converter and control monitoring level from the MCU, but such is not the case...yet, I hope

Any of those 8 channel mic pre rack thingies would probably work good for you, as you could change the trims right then and there, or just feed the insert outs of your live console prefader to the Delta, and use the faders on your console for the monitoring

Thanks for the reply. Thats what I had pretty much figured out. I guess it doesn't hurt to dream though!
