Wondering what the Mackie control unit can do..
A short list of needs
1. do the faders record when tracks set to automation?
2. do the faders "fly" or give feedback when automation set to read?
3. cut, copy, paste and move clips(audio and video) on the timeline without using the keyboard?
4. control effects such as eq, reverbs, chorus etc in realtime?
5. create new tracks, import files, anything else!
Some feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Heck, I may just get some nice pre amps instead!
Thanks
Erik

Yes, they do, in both video and audio modes. (Vegas is currently the only tool to access the Universal Control for video purposes)
2. do the faders "fly" or give feedback when automation set to read?
If you want them to, yes. You can also shut this off.
3. cut, copy, paste and move clips(audio and video) on the timeline without using the keyboard?
No, you can't move clips with the default settings, except that you could map the editing points to one of the keys on the Mackie and edit/trim that way. Pretty well all features that are keyboard accessible can be mapped, or already are mapped on the Control.
4. control effects such as eq, reverbs, chorus etc in realtime?
Absolutely. It's a simple matter of selecting the VPot on the specific track, selecting the plug or preset you want, and setting the control. You won't see feedback from Vegas, you'll see all the control points displayed on the Mackie's screen.
5. create new tracks, import files, anything else!
You can create new tracks, but opening/importing files is accomplished via Vegas, as the Mackie can't display the Explorer, nor access it. I fyou were really ambitious, I'm certain you could map a set of buttons on the Universal control to access the Explorer, but adding a file from the Explorer would be a challenge, as there aren't shortcuts to do that.
