Mackie MCU Question...

Question for Vegas 7 users with Mackie Control Universal: Does your MCU show "Master" on the last available channel fader IN ADDITION TO the dedicated "Master" channel on the unit? For instance, if I have 4 tracks in my project, and enable it for MCU, I'll see tracks 1-4 on faders 1-4, PLUS a MASTER control on Fader 5. This MASTER on Fader 5 seems to be linked to the dedicated MCU Master Fader. Is this the way it's supposed to work?

I just upgraded from a Begringer BCF2000, which has 8 faders and no dedicated Master fader, so I'm now thinking that maybe the driver for the BCF2000 is somehow adding this extra MASTER fader??? Also, in the Vegas External Control preferences dialog, the device description is showing as "Emulated Mackie Control" - is this normal?

This is designed behavior.

Why? So that in larger projects you always have access to the master gain.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the response. But the MCU has a dedicated Master Gain fader in addition to the 8 channel faders, right? I can see why this would be done for the Behringer, which only has the 8 channel faders, but on the Mackie it seems like we are wasting one of the 8 channel faders.

Or am I missing something here completely?

Nope, not a waste.

You can only control the gain of the master from the master slider.

The master "channel" that is exposed on the main bank of 8 permits you to control other aspects of the "master channel" besides simple gain - i.e. mute/solo, FX configuration, etc, etc.

Aha - that makes sense now. I knew I was overlooking something!

Note also, that you can filter out what is being exposed on the main 8 faders. You can show tracks only, buses only, or all.

The master fader becomes very handy when you are working on tracks only.

Peter - how can I do this?

You should read the whitepaper we provide on using the Mackie.

Using a Mackie Control Universal

On Page 9 of this document you will find a section called "Display Buttons".

This will cover it for you.
