Mackie Onyx

I've just started using a Mackie Onyx, with 1394 option...which I generally really like in every way. However, on one Dell Optiplex XPSP2 machine (but not others) I am getting pops/clicks on both playback and record (in the recorded signal, not just monitoring; but playback of a 1k tone also exhibits this). This seems to be system related- Forge does it, Vegas does it, Traktion does it. I'll admit that this is my main box with tons of stuff installed on it. Pops/clicks are "fairly regular" but there is no completely reproduceable time pattern.

Same system:

DV video capture over 1394, flawless, never a dropped frame
Echo Gina 24/96, flawless recording and playback, ASIO PW, WDM.

Has anybody had this happen and worked through it all the way? I've tried a bunch of buffer settings, there are no other 1394 devices connected, I've tried all the usual suspects...

As stated this is far from a clean machine but every other 1394 or recording scenario I have tried perfectly, so I'm wondering if there's something obvious I'm missing.

-TIA

Thanks for posting this!! I've been seriously considering an Onyx but certainly won't go with it until I can determine if this is resolved as I'm only using Sony apps. PLEASE keep us updated on your progress.

Thanks again,

I've read several posts in the Cubase forum about FireWire issues. It seems like your problems falls into this one :

Some FireWire chipsets are not recommended for audio, some other are tested, and working great (Texas Instrument, but a certain model of chipset). It's somewhat always found in the AMD based systems.

I suggest you make a quick search in cubase.net forums with the firewire keyword. Here's what I found that seems to be related :
