Magix Upgrade Sale Pricing Policy

pete-schaefers wrote on 11/22/2018, 2:43 AM

Before I start, let me say that I love Vegas Pro and have been a user since V8. But, I'm wondering...

1- How many others, like myself, bought the upgrade at $349 (for VP Suite) before the promo deadline at the end of September?

2- How did you feel when the "deadline" passed and you saw it extended about another month?

3- How do you feel about the subsequent $50 price drop with yet another deadline of 11/13/18, which was then again changed to 11/25?

I am not wanting start a Magix bashing thread, but I seriously want to see others' response to these questions.

----

The end of my story:

The same exact scenario played out last year and I contacted Magix about it. They refunded the $50 difference! (Good for them!) It had been less than 6 weeks since I purchased, but I don't know the time frame between my purchase and the price drop, only that it was less time than that. So I knew to watch for the same thing this year and expected them to price match themselves again as they did in 2017, but they refused! Even after my repeated protesting about the unfairness and ill will that comes from such tactics, they simply glossed it over as "Last year we refunded the $50 difference in goodwill and made very clear that we have various promotional periods throughout the year during which upgrades can be acquired at a cheaper price."

If indeed there were price reductions at random times throughout the year I would be more understanding, but that's not the case. It's an annual upgrade event geared to drive as many sales as possible (which is fine), but it also punishes those who upgrade just prior to the initial "deadline" (which not at all fine).

Sales happen. If I thought the price I bought it as was fair I wouldn't mind.

But you had it longer than those who got the bigger discount later. And since time is money, I see no problem with it. 🤑

Gosh...get a grip! I paid almost 500 bucks oz. I'm fucking broke! I'm a poor failed polymath - who can barely pay rent and eat...you don't hear me all weepy do you? And do you know? It was the best 500 bucks I'd spent in ages...I can now almost make you Star Wars with all the vfxs and knowledge I have. True story failed polymath remember! And I've been using Vegas longer than you...since 2000 and Sonic Foundry.

@DrNeb : I'm on a tight budget too. Your point 3. made for me affordable at all the upgrade, otherwise I probably never would have done it. So we could say, MAGIX sold the upgrade first to the rich, and at last to the poor.

If the price drops even more, I won't care for it. I'm just happy that finally I could do it at all.

If I can't afford a price, I don't buy. If I buy at a price, it's because I can afford and I judge the price to be OK.

Point well taken.

The $50 amount is a small thing, but the constant sale/deadline that has no meaning just seems unfitting of professional software. Getting them to price-match themselves was an attempt to point that out.

Thanks for the responses.

It's marketing. Guessing there must even be the odd clown that pays the "RRP". Or is that even possible?

All NLE's compete in the consumer/prosumer arena these days. Expect this kind of price/marketing strategy and plan accordingly. Good thing is there are great deals to be had. I mean $150 to upgrade to Vegas 16 Edit... it's pretty inexpensive isn't it?
