Just wondering if anyone knew where I could get a Manual for the Main Concept Professional MPEG encoder that comes with Vegas Video 3.0 There are a lot of options for rendering MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 videos...but I have no idea what a lot of them mean..there has to be some kind of manual or documentation on this plugin.

SoFo are reportedly working on this.
I'm looking forward to its release, too. With a bit of luck we'll then be able to create our own templates for our own particular prejudices ;-)

use the 'what's this' question mark to get info on most of the options in the encoder. it's in the top right corner of the Main Concept encoder window.

I don't find them intuitive, though. They seem to be more aides memoire for people who've already got a clue <g>

If anyone from SoFo is reading, I, and I suspect most others, find a worked example better than a thousand pages of manualese. If we had a number of scenarios - like 'The Best Quality - No Questions Asked' or 'How To Get 2Hrs 10 mins of Video Onto One DVD Without Losing Too Much Quality' it would help to hit the ground running. Or what about a set of exercises involving changing parameters, with pointers to the differences you would expect to see following such tweaks?

I'm equally frustrated by the Main-Concept encoder. My main beef is that I cannot get the quality out of it that I used to get from the MPEG-1 encoder in VV2. If you check out this simple clip http://reason-is-weak.hengeveld.com/big_bear.zip (it's 12 megs... sorry.) You'll see that the quality sucks when the camera moves. I can't, for the life of me, get the encoder to give me better quality. BTW, I use MPG-1 over MPG-2 because most people's computer's cannot read MPG-2's. I know you can get better quality out of MPG-2 but if my friends can't see my stuff - what's the point?
