i have problem with the following. when i render my project out of VV4 using the Mainconcept DV Codec, the image quality is at a level where i´d like to puke. all the contrast is gone!
but using the normal DV codec, everything looks fine.
Yes. But first of all: There should be no reason at all to use the MainConceptDV-Codec in Vegas. SonicFoundryDV codec is superior!
But if you gonna use the MainConceptDV codec anyway, then be very sure to have "ignore third party codec" found in "Options/Preferences" --> "General" NOT to be checked. This makes a huge difference when using the MainConceptDV codec regarding contrast and luminance!!!
Besides for the use of MicrosoftDV which got its own checkbox in this preferences menu - it not only good, it's necessary!
The thing about it is - rendering to a codec consists of a decompressing process and a compressing process. Now if "ignore third party codecs" is checked decompressing seems to be done with SoFo codec, but compressing will be done with the codec you choose in the render template. And decompressing video works different in different dv-codecs regarding luminance and chrominance issues.
This way there might be rather strange results in the end, especially over many render generations (test it using MainConceptDV-codec and setting "ignore third party codec" checked: you'll loose about 10 percent of luminance on EACH render generation - it will not happen if you uncheck "ignore third party codec").
Otherway round: Be sure to have "ignore third party codecs" checked if you use the internal SoFo-DV codec.
And - again - I recommend to use SoFo-DV codec only, because of its superior quality!
