I rendered one of my Vegas projects to MPEG2 format using MainConcept
MPEG-2 templates "DVD PAL" and "DVD Architect PAL Video Stream".
I also tried with custom templates (with different bitrates).
Then I burned the MPEG2 videos to DVD using DVD Architect. The video
quality in my TV was otherwise excellent but there was some flickering
or "restless" in video when watching it from TV. I checked the field
order in all possible places in Vegas. It was bottom field first
like it should be so this can not be the problem. I also have seen
"real flickering" caused by wrong field order and my problem
was not that bad.
When I rendered the same project first to DV AVI (PAL) format and then
used TMPGEnc encoder for MPEG-2 encoding, there was not remarkable
flickering. The overall video quality was otherwise quite same as
with MC's encoder.
I have tens of edited DV tapes waiting for burning them to DVD, and I
really would like to find out the best possible encoder of these two
before I start to burn the DVDs :-) Based on my current experience
I will select TMPGEnc. However, if the problem with MC is solved somehow
I prefer it because it is easier and less time-consuming to use
(rendering directly from Vegas to MPEG2).
I wonder if this "flickering" is characteristic to MC's MPEG-2 encoder,
or can there be something wrong in my settings? Do you have similar problems?
