MainConcept MPEG2 rendering hangs

So I bit the bullet and went out and bought a copy of MS3 at CompUSA for $59 + tax. I was looking forward to being able to render into MPEG2 using the MainConcept encoder.

I have a very large (55Gb) capture file - AVI uncompressed - that I previously was able to render to uncompressed AVI file in the trial version of MS3. I selected a 1h 14m segment to render and this rendered down to a 16Gb file. I then tried to burn to DVD using Ulead Movie Factory. Unfortunately the Ulead burn subprogram was unable to burn it to DVD, even though it claimed there was enough disk space, DVD space, etc. It bombed out saying the file was too big for my DVD even though I had selected "Good - 2hrs". Oh well. Typical of how this project has been going.

So I bought MS3 and loaded the 55Gb file and selected the same 1h 14m segment and this time I tried to render to MPEG2 using the "NTSC DV" template. It said the resulting file would be 3-4 Gb. Nice. The MainConcept program started up rendering OK and ran for a while, but when it got to 22% done it just hung. I couldn't even cancel the task using the Cancel button. I had to go into Task Manager and kill off MS3. I tried again and again it hung at 22%. Same deal. Plus it takes 5hrs to even get to 22%. Has anyone else ever had this problem? I have *plenty* of free disk space and a 2800Mhz processor and 512 Mb of memory. Latest patched W2K. I've gone back to rendering to uncompressed AVI, but I still have no way apparently to burn the DVD.

I have been working for over a week now and have used three software packages trying to get a simple 8mm tape onto DVD. I never expected it would be this difficult. Very disappointing.

Let me tell you about problems! Weeks of problems! I've tried Pinnacle Studio 8 and now MS3. I've gotten farther with MS3, but still no DVD. MyDVD now hangs up when burning DVD... I did get the movie to render in MS3, but I was hanging up and had to figure that out as well. I found out that compression was turned on, on my hard drive. I turned it off as well as indexing and the movire rendered fine... still working on the MyDVD piece! It looks like Roxio will burn the DVD for me instead of MyDVD, but it is taking hours and hours to burn. GOOD LUCK!!!

linybob, have you been able to render anything using that template? From the preview window you can tell where your main project is hanging - try selecting a few minutes either side and then just rendering that.
