MainConcept updates & Vegas?

Hi. The DV-codec used inside Vegas is developed by MainConcept, right? The Mpeg technology is for sure. Now, when I have a look at the MainConcept homepage I find upgrades to their DV-codec (version 2.4.4) and their stand alone Mpeg encoder which is now 1.4 and both are soooo much better than before according to themselves.
What do we have in Vegas? Are these things updated too when a newer version is presented? If not - will they be? When? I'd like to have as much info as possible on this from anyone who knows and Sony in particular.

BTW, you can download free texture loops from Mainconcept @ http://www.mainconcept.com/texture_loops.shtml

This issue has been addressed in several posts.

Short version: Yes, the latest MC Standalone (MPG) encoder is much better. The output looks great and is faster encoding. The batch encode as well as the ability to meld into one file is very nice.

This is not covered by any Vegas updates, as of now.

Basically, when we bought Vegas, the encoder is what it is. Vegas updates are free. Apparently, encoder updates are not.

...and that's pretty much it.

The DV codec is Sonys own.

Ok, but how about if we purchased M.C. upgrades on our own? Does anyone know if we can overwrite the OEM codecs and encoders without screwing up SoFo/SONY products?

there is no charge to upgrade to 1.4 mc encoder from 1.3

you can replace the dll's and base files in vegas with the 1.4 dll's (the 001-004 files are part of it) , it works fine ... but you get no added features unless you do some patching of the vegas part of the encoding engine (they just used the MC sdk) .. which would constitute reverse engineering - which are not allowed to do ..

installing soundforge 7 changes the build number of the enocder also -- but attemps by me to install Soundforge plugins in the vegas plug in dir (as it was pre sony) met in destroying vegas ability to encode mpeg completly ..

after having to uninstall soundforge demo and vegas and re-installing vegas to get it to work again -- havnt bothered to check to see if vegas would use the new build or not -- or if it even maters .... someone at sonic foundry could put more light on this ...

weird thing is that while i killed vegas mpeg rendering -- i could frame serve to soundforge 7 DEMO and render mpeg2 ....

which of course is not supposed to happen ..

Is MC 1.3 mpeg encoder what comes with Vegas 4.0? I'd look myself, but I won't be home for another 6 hours.

THis topic has been covered before - here is the "official" Sony/SoFo response as posted by SONYEPM here:

===========

Here's the real deal:

1) Sony/sf apps share the same MPEG encoder. Install a new update of one Sony/sf app and your MPEG (and MP3 and AC-3) encoder will be updated for all the Sony/sf apps.

2) If you have the Vegas 4.0d or DVDA 1.0c update, you have the most current version of the Sony/SF encoders for MPEG, AC-3, MP3.

3) We have updated the MPEG encoder two times since Vegas 4 was released in Feb '03. Both times the MPEG update was included in a Vegas update. These updates were free- you got HD MPEG and 24p MPEG for free and both of these important features actually worked in advance of the press release that said they did <g>.

4) We will likely be updating the Mpeg encoder again in the next few months. No promises exactly when, or exactly what will be included.

5) We know the guys at Main Concept personally, all is cool there.
