The underlying video/pic that you want to use as your background - the one that you DON'T want to be transparent - needs to be on the video track.

The pic that will have some transparency on it, needs to be overlayed on the track above.

Now attach a chroma-key FX to your top pic. Select the color(s) you want to be transparent, and there you go.

Note, the background that you want to make transparent needs to be a solid color, or nearly so and the part that you DON'T want to be transparent should not have any of that color in it.

Sorry for the n00b question; but I don't have the chroma-key FX- is it possible to download somewhere on the maze that is this site? o.<

Chromakey was added with MS3 - it's not available as a plugin.

Mleh, thanks for the info then. That's odd though. Why would they package Artbeats video overlays in Video Factory 2.0 designed to work -specifically- as a partially transparent overlay if there was no way to key out the transparency?

You can use almost any image editing tool for this. I use Picture It!. Simply use the tracing tool to trace out your image. Then save it as a GIF image, making the background transparent. Then you can just add it to your overlay track.

What are "artbeats" - there's nothing about them in my copy of VF?

Not sure exactly what ARTBEATS is, but just adjust the OPACITY of the top video layer to make it transparent. Put the cursor on the top of the video clip, it will turn into a hand with a floating text box telling you the OPACITY. Just drag it down to adjust it.
