Given that a DVD can not contain HD footage, no, you can not make a DVD using HD. You can scale it down to SD obviously, but putting anything other than 480 (nope, you can't do 720 either) on a DVD will make it unplayable in any DVD player.

If you want to put HD footage on a DVD you have to create an AVCHD disk, but this can of course not be played in any DVD player, it will only play in Blu-Ray players.

Sadly, Sony doesn't yet support creating AVCHD disks, or BDMV disks for that matter, from DVDA, so you are out of luck there. The best option would be to use Ulead DVD Movie Factory with the HD add-on.
