Make Movie .m2t back to Canon HV30

Problem: HDV shot with Canon HV30, captured by VMS HD 9.0c (Build 30)
and on timeline with a loop region selected...will not print back to tape using
the Make Movie wizard.

Make Movie sees the HV30, allows me to go through all the wizard prompts and
when I attempt to crash record or manual record I get a message from the
HV30: Check the HDV/DV input.

Prior to the Make Movie process I've turned off Norton security. My laptop (Dell Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 @ 1.83 GHZ with 3GB RAM) has one firewire input. The Canon HV30 is hooked to an external firewire drive that's hooked up to the one firewire input.

Any suggestions on how to resolve the problem? Is this a common problem with Canon camcorders where the user has only one firewire port on
his computer? Can the HV30 firewire bus not handle the daisy chaining?
Would a FireWire 800 ExpressCard Adapter with 2 ports solve the problem?

Thanks for your help.

Not familiar with this camera .. but the first thing I would try is take the external HD out of the chain and plug the camera directly into the computer and see if that works.

brighterside,

Thanks for the reply. I suppose I could render the .m2t file to my laptop's
main drive, disconnect the external firewire drive and connect the HV30
directly to the computer's one firewire drive, but, cheap chap that I am,
I don't have a handy firewire 4-pin to 4-pin cable at hand...

But if it did work...perhaps adding another firewire port to the laptop
might be the answer.

I am hoping someone who does use an HV30 (20, 40) and has made the Make
Movie work would weigh in with a suggestion or solution.

Print to Tape is a completely separate function, not part of the render menu.
Tools->Print video to HDV Tape
It must be done through a discrete firewire connection with your camera.

Musicvid,

Thanks for the reply. I got both the Make Movie and Tools>Print video to
HDV to work. The prompt screens are quite similiar and both function
to get selected timeline content onto the HV30.

For both functions, on the "HDV Print Tape--Select Format/File" prompt
screen, I was changing the File Path by browsing over to my external
firewire drive and selecting a folder on it.

So, I tried the default File Path:

C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Vegas Movie Studio HD 9.0 Projects\ZZZ\Disc Images\ZZZ.m2t

Print to tape and Make Movie both worked.
