Making a Blu ray file?

debuman wrote on 6/9/2008, 8:19 PM
Hey guys,

I just want to thank everbody for helping out with all my HDV and Blu ray questions. It's a hair puller for me.

When I rendered my HDV project to a Blu ray 1440 by 1080i file everything went good but when I tested it by playing the file itself there is always no audio. My goal is to create a 2-hr wedding video with audio so what should I do to create and burn a video/audio Blu ray file?.

Thanks.

How are you rendering? Are you rendering the audio?
Opampman wrote on 6/10/2008, 7:41 AM
Did you check to make sure the audio is set to AC-3?That's not the default on the Vegas timeline render and AC3 is what the bluray wants.

Thanks for your replys,

All I do is highlight the whole program in Vegas and click on tools then I click on burn Blu ray disk then it takes me to the menu to render my file. under video format I chose Sony AVC Mp4 because the size of 14.75 gigs will fit into my 25gig Blu ray disk then under video template I chose Blu ray 1440x1080-60i, 15Mbps video stream then under audio format I chose Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro then under audio template I chose stereo DVD. So is there a problem with these settings?.

Try to understand that when I did use all these settings vegas created a data dvd. It did not author it so I'm looking for a way to burn my HDV weddings to a plug and play Blu ray disk so the Blu ray player will automatically play the Blu ray disk when inserted.

Thanks.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply and yes it is set to AC-3 audio.

Hello debuman, you now have three or four different threads going on this one topic, let's try to keep it to one thread plase.

The question is more, how you have authored the files, rendered with the Blu Ray templates.

The templates wil generate only files, the next step is the authoring to BDMV stuctures. Up to now that is only included in Vegas, if you burn a Blu Ray disc from the timeline.

HD-authoring tools - like the upcoming DVDA 5 - will take the material as rendered from the templates.

Hey guys,

Can a regular DVD SD media play on a Blu ray player or vise versa?.

If so, how do I put HDV media on a REGULAR DVD disk to play on a Blu ray player?

Thanks.
warriorking wrote on 6/11/2008, 3:52 PM
Make sure you check the option to include audio stream, I made the same mistake until it was pointed out to me in this forum....
Opampman wrote on 6/11/2008, 4:02 PM
Are you wanting to put SD files or HDV files on a regular DVD? If the latter, simply put a regular DVD into your burner and slect the template you want to use (1440X1081-60i) and burn from the Vegas timeline. Works great. But, you are limited to about 20 minutes or so.
debuman wrote on 6/11/2008, 6:25 PM
Opampman,

But do I have to use a 1440x1080 60i Blu ray template or can I use the HDV 108060i template to play in a Blu ray player?. Whats the difference or is there a difference?.

Thanks.
Opampman wrote on 6/11/2008, 8:15 PM
I use the 1440x1080 60i bluray template from the TOOLS, BURN DISC, BLU-RAY DISC options. I don't see an HDV template.
debuman wrote on 6/11/2008, 8:49 PM
Opampman,

Your right, there is no HDV template when using that method. I used exactly what you written down and it burned as a Blu ray data disk. I also played it back in my computers Blu ray burner/player and my other Sony Blu ray player connected to my T.V and it does not play at all. I'm trying to render it again the same way just in case because according to everybody here that method should of burned it to the Blu ray disk as a plug and play so we'll see.

Thanks.

debuman,

Just wait until next week for the release of DVD Architect v5 and all your problems should be solved. I understand that you've promised a Blu-ray disc to a client and you're under the gun to deliver but, you probably shouldn't have made that commitment until you knew that you could actually pull it off. Burning a Blu-ray disc from within Vegas does not always work on every Blu-ray player. Quit banging your head against the wall.

John Cline,

Yea, your right. Just hanging in there. It's been interesting learning from many groups that helps each other. It's my first time in any forum and I'm glad there is such a thing with Sony.

Thanks.

If a 002-BMDV-DVD - as generated by Sony Vegas 8b - will play on a specific Blu Ray player, will depend on the firmware of the specifi player. For example, a PS3 does not play back 002-BDMV-DVD at all - and accepts 001-AVCHD-DVD only (cannot be created by Vegas). My Samsung 1400 accepts 002-BDMV DVDs. So it depends.

I am not sure when the DVDA will be released - did Sony state that this will be next week?

My PS3 has no problem at all playing the elementary stream created with the 1440/1081 60i template from the Vegas timeline.
Wolfgang S. wrote on 6/12/2008, 8:05 AM
But that is recogniced only as data file - but not as Blu Ray disc - so you have to navigate to the file, and start playback manually. For 60i that is fine maybe, for 50i footage that is weak - since 50i footage is played back as 60i material.

It would be great if the PS3 could recognice a 002-BDVM DVD as BDMV disc, or would be able to playback a 50i file with 50i at least.

Ok guys,

Here is my update from this hair pulling HD trials. Now I did exactly what I did before and still it does not play in any of my Blu ray players. From what I explained earlier I burned straite from the Vegas pro 8 timeline to a Blue ray disk and still it can't play at all. There is only a few selection options that you can choose from before burning to disk so I just don't know what is wrong. Could it be how I rendered it from the original edit because I did not use the Blue ray video stream template. I used the HDV 108060i template because it had audio stream with it. So I'm still trying to figure it out.

Thanks.

I don't know what happens with MPEG-2 renders to Blu-Ray from the time line. Renderto AVC with AVC audio and see what happens.

What media are you using?
debuman wrote on 6/12/2008, 7:29 PM
Terji,

From what I see in Vegas Pro 8 when burning from the timeline to create a Blu ray movie there is only two options available to us which is MPEG2 and MP4 H.264 for the video format. I chose MP4 H.264 because it creates an MPEG file of 14GB and my Blu ray disk can handle up to 25GB so it will fit in that. The MPEG2 comes out to 35GB which will not fit in that disk. Next I select the video template which is the Bly ray 1440x1080-60i, 15 Mbps video stream. Next I select the audio format which is the Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro. Next I select the audio template which is the Stereo DVD. Thats it then it starts burning. There are no other options to change so why do you think after the burn it's not playing at all?.

Thanks.

I can not conclude other than it must be your player. Go to a video store and check.
Wolfgang S. wrote on 6/13/2008, 6:16 AM
It is definitively your player - because both the mpeg2-HD but also the AVC-settings described by you will deliver a runable BDMV-disc.

According to the specification of the BDP S301, this player is not able to playback self-burned BD-R or BD-RE!

"Video Features
BD-R/RE Read Compatibility : No !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BD-ROM : Yes

DVD+R Read Compatibility : Yes

DVD+RW Read Compatibility : Yes

DVD-R Read Compatibility : Yes (Video Mode Only)

DVD-RW Read Compatibility : Yes (Video Mode Only)

High Definition : Full HD 1080/24p and 60p1

JPEG Playback : Yes (Content must be in DVD+R/+RW/-R/-RW format.)

Screen Saver : Yes

x.v.Color™ : Yes (output without Meta Data) "

So, very likely you need another player. Maybe there is a firmware update that may allow BD-R and BD-RE (but I do not know that).
