Making DVDA forget previous media files

Ran into an odd problem on a friend's system. I believe he's still at DVDA 4.5.

I have a multi-page .dar I created that I want to use as a template.

So I load it in, remove the previous media file and menu media files. Put in the new ones, connect all the links, done.

It previews fine. There are no references that I can find to the previous and no longer existing media files.

Of course, unlike Vegas, DVDA doesn't have a "project media" tab so I can't truly see if it "sees" other media that isn't in active use in the project.

I save the .dar. I load it in again, it complains that it can't find these two old media files, one for the main media of the DVD, and one for the menu media. Both AVIs. I tell it to ignore them and leave them off-line. Since again, I do NOT use them in this DVD.

I then go to "make DVD". It complains that there are errors since it can't find those two AVIs from before, which again, I am NOT using in this DVD.

How do I properly make it forget about them for good???

I figured out a workaround by lying to DVDA. When opening the .dar, I told it to replace the two missing AVIs with other ones not related to this project. Then it was happy, didn't complain, and let me actually "make DVD."

But there's gotta be a way to properly make it forget the old AVIs.

What is it?

Thanks.

That's happened to me before where DVDA will use media from the previous project even though I definitely changed the files.

Can you make a template with empty buttons and just fill them in each time? I'm not sure, but it would be nice.

Any ideas?

Yeah, DVDA gets crabby when you try to re-used a project without the original media.

One thing you can check (as detailed in a post by cbrillow) is the thumbnail media for any buttons you have. Even if you've changed those buttons to Text Only, DVDA may still have their thumbnail properties set to use the original media.

Having some experience (mostly frustrating) with this problem, the best solution for me is to start a new project, even though it involves duplication of efforts.

Yup, turns out it was the "hidden" links to old thumbnail image AVIs. I cleared those, and some "empty" audio on the menus and that cleared those errors.

I also did set up an "empty" (1 second long) AVI for my friend so if he gets the error in the future, he can just replace what's missing with that.

So, it all worked out.

Thanks.
