Making it fit in Studio DVDA

I just wanted to check that I'm advising a friend correctly. He's got Studio versions of Vegas and DVDArchitect, and wants to fit two & a quarter hours onto a DVD.

It seems the bitrate adjustment/fitting to disc has to happen in DVDA rather than in the render, so as he's shooting HDV I told him to render from Vegas Studio as HDV to maximise quality, then let DVDA Studio optimize to fit.

Is this correct?

Thanks

If you're going to let DVD A do the compressing, then I would probably render to *.avi format using the template that you will end up with (i.e. NTSC Widescreen)

Then, after you import the rendered *.avi clip into in DVD Architect use the Optimize Disc option (under File menu) and use the 'Fit to disc' feature.

Disadvantage of that is that you'll have to spend extra time going through two passes of rendering (one from Vegas to *.avi, and then another in DVD Architect when you prepare and burn).

The advantage though is that you will only have to go through one generation of compression and loss and also, this will take out the bit rate compression guess work so that the entire clip fits onto the disc.

Thanks MSK - the reason I advised my friend to do it this way was that I don't think Vegas Movie Studio has the option of creating a custom template with a reduced bitrate - the comparison chart on Sony's site seemed to say this.
