Making my own green screen...not sure what I need..

I was thinking about making my own green screen, but I'm not sure what materials I need. I know I need green paint, but I'm not sure what material I should use for the actual screen. I would like this screen to be semi-portable, but have enough space for someone to walk back and forth in front of....and not so small to where the person has no room to move at all. Also, I videotaped a few different shades of green to see which one keys the best and I think I found one, but I'm not sure how to match it up to a color in Vegas Video 3.0....the chromakey green is differnt in vegas then on my sample. If anyone has made their own green screen or knows a lot about them, please respond! Thanks!

Might be faster (and more complete) to do a search. This has been discussed before.

The most portable is a roll up screen, but you have to watch for ripples when it's out straight.

If it only needs to be semi-portable , a sheet of hardboard (masonite? - not sure what it's called where you are) can do the job.

Regarding the green colour - it doesn't really matter - the chroma keyer in Vegas has an eye dropper so you can select whichever colour the screen turns out to be.

I agree with riredale, there is a LOT of great and detailed information in several long threads within the forum--including comments from myself, and several folks that have made a LOT of green/blue screen productions. These threads tell about materials, lighting, distance, yellow backlighting, etc., etc.

Good luck - a lot of fun.
