I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to slow down a clip but then make it look smoother and not flickery. I tried to reduce the flicker with flicker interlude reduce setting but it didn't really help. Does anyone have any tricks that they use ?
if it works and you are happy, good. If not you can try supersampling, but be forwarned render time will increase dramaticly. I normally do not have to use supersampling but if you slow down your clip a lot you may no other choice to create those missing in-between frames.
It really depends on how much you slow the footage down and what sort of footage it is to start with. If you slow down to half speed, Vegas must interpolate(rebuild) 1 extra frame to keep things smooth...likewise if it is at quarter speed it must rebuild 3 frames for every real frame. There is obviously a limit to how much can be interpolated! It is not magic, just building extra frames from real frames, so any slower than half speed will tend to look a little jerky...to my eye at least. I have done extensive tests between Vegas slomo and that from Twixtor, and to me they look pretty much on par with each other ...maybe slightly smoother from Vegas.
For some reason most of the indoor footage(under lights, on stage)I have used slows down more smoothly than than outdoor footage....possibly because of largely dark backdrops. Also footage shot on tripod will probably look smoother when slowed down as opposed to handheld shots. The more a subject moves and if they do so quickly will be a lot jerkier when slowed down. You may have more luck making your slomo smooth if the footage is exactly half (playback as 0.5) or a quarter (0.25).......
