Managing 5.1 music in Vegas

Hi,
I compose my own music beds for my videos using AcidPro. Since I do all my video in surround, I decided also to make music in surround. So good so far. I compose the music, render it to 6 separate Mono wavs and import to Vegas (5) audio tracks, which already have surround panning set to respective channels (R,C,L, etc.).

Now. How do I control the volume of these tracks? I'm using volume envelopes for each tracks but it is very difficult or at least time consuming to keep all five or six envelopes in sync volume- and time-wise.

How should I control the volume for surround sound? I do not have separate control surface in my disposal...

If I route surround through a bus and control the bus volume, I lose surround.

Am I missing something here? I've read through both Vegas 5 Editing Workshop and Instant Surround Sound but without any help.

BR,
Matti Remonen

view the 'surround master' bus track by pressing 'b' (or going to 'view>audio bus tracks'), add a volume envelope to this track and it will fade all 6 channels at the same time.

Thanks but this won't help if I occasionally need to dim the music in order to emphasise the dialog.

I can always select all 6 (or 5) tracks and then use track automation to change the volume envelope "in concert" but if I need to delete or add new points I'm stuck with doing it on track-by-track basis.

Oh well, I can live with this, I think...

Oh okay, I guess you are in that scenario.

You might want to experiment using the envelope tool, cut and paste keyboard shortcuts and region selection. You can create a fairly complex envelope adjustment, select a region around it and then copy and the paste it to t he other 5 tracks.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, this seems to be the only solution as of now.

If there is a thread for Vegas 7 "wish list" (as it was for 5) I would like to add request for additional surround buses similar as master surround bus so that you could manage volume and plugins simultaneously for multiple surround tracks and then route it ito master surround.

Of course it would mean that I'd need another display for volume meters ;)

And support for multichannel file formats (Wav and AC3) playback on the timeline. ie a 5.1 audio track.
