Manipulating a solid color

I want to put a black rectangular patch over part of the frame, and I've tried to create that patch using the Solid Color Media Generator. But I am just not catching on to the techniques for both sizing it *and* positioning it exactly where I want it over my video image. Very frustrating.

I feel very, uh, "slow" in learning about this particular tool. Any advice would be appreciated.

Using a Bezier mask will give you the ultimate flexibility over size, shape, feathering and position, all with only one tool.

Create your black rectangle on a track above the material you wish to block with Solid Color Media Gen. Then use track motion on the Generated Media track to size and position the rectangle however you wish over your frame. I have done this many times.

It turned out that in this particular project, I ended up not needing to make a black patch. But I'm saving this thread for the "next time." The Track Motion tool is something I did not know about. I've been struggling with Pan/Crop when I should have used Track Motion... many times!

Thanks very much for your responses.
