Manual w/ shipped version of VV3?

Arks wrote on 12/3/2001, 4:34 PM
Anyone know if the shipped Upgrade to VV3 will have a manual (like the one VV2 had)? Or is it just going to be a .pdf file like you can get in the download.. I am assuming the ship date isnt for another two weeks because they are printing the manual and boxes... maybe I am wrong. I am just "wondering" since I like to have the luxury of reading the manual anywhere I want =)

Persoanlly, I LOVE the printed manual (can read it on the bus on the way to work:-)
But I've been told by SF that there is no printed manual for VV3.

Hope they change their minds.

save the trees! :)

seriously, i like the printed manual too, but you can always print the PDF or have it printed yourself, right? pain in the butt, but prevents a lot of waste.

If Kinkos can do it for a low price, then Sonic Foundry, who will be printing thousands, can do it for an even lower price! Seriously folks, VV's list price is several hundred dollars. For that price, they should be able to give you a $5 manual! I personally prefer the download product (along with the cheaper price) and if I want the manual, I print it out myself. But the difference in price between the download and packaged versions should be able to more than cover the cost of the manual. I would assume that the biggest cost is in actually developing the manual, not in the printing.

I would also think that the reason the price is higher for packaged is..the packaging and materials (and postage). Yes, I can print it on my inkjet, probably use a cartridge of ink, and ream of paper, but there's nothing like a nice bound copy for study and refernce. I can understand saving the trees and being ableto update a .pdf file . . .I'm just saying, give us a choice.

In this cyber age...sometimes you just want a nice book :-)

Hello,

I ordered the packaged version of Acid 3.0, and they sent me the packaged version in a brown padded envelope, I recieved everything the boxed version has but, I didn't get the box! I Like the Boxes. :)

I personally like to have a binded manual with the software, I can always print my own but I like to have it like a factory made book.

See ya, Rockit

What is the "official" word?

It is plain from looking at the PDF file someone at Sonic had originally planned to print a manual. For big ticket software it should be automatic. What am I waiting till 12/15 for the boxed version for? Just to get a useless CD filled with junk I'll probably never use?

I ordered the boxed version expecting to get some "official" manual that the PDF file is made from. Printing out a 360 page manual, most of which is in color on your home printer is crazy. Think of time you'd waste, the paper, the ink and the mess. In no time the paper gets dog eared, pages fall out, a royal mess! Even if printed on both sides of the paper, you have an idea what a tomb 150 pages of 8x11 inch page looks like? Then why is it formatted for such a small size? No, the intention was to have a printed manual.

So Sonic Foundy, is there or is there not a printed manual included? If not, I just as soon get the downloaded version.

Geez... if Sonic Foundry has to nickle and dime its customers, at least make ordering a paid for printed manual an option. I too like to get away from the computer to read a manual. Especially when you're dealing with visual concepts. By the way, I'm upgrading from Video Factory. That product far cheaper, does come with a printed manual. So why wouldn't the full version, which is Vegas Video?

There is no printed manual with Vegas Video 3.0, just the PDF manual.

Q1 So what advantage if any is there to getting the boxed version besides it being in a box and the application on a CD?

Q2 I ordered the box version a couple weeks ago under the impression there was a manual. Since I now know there isn't one included, explain how to undo the order and instead get the online version.

Q3 I already have the demo. This is the full, complete version, right? If so, is all I have to do is register and get the activation codes?

I WISH WHOEVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAING THE SONIC FOUNDY WEB SITE AS FAR AS THE PRODUCTS SECTION WOULD LEARN TO SPELL OUT SPECIFCS TO AVOID THESE KIND OF SILLY SITUTATIONS THAT ONLY LEAD TO CUSTOMER DISAPOINTMENT AND FRUSTRATION AND NEEDLESS DELAYS!

My understanding is that the shipped version of Vegas Video 3 includes a printed quick start guide. The quick start publication provides basic information to get up and running in Vegas, but does not include all the detailed information in the PDF manual.

If we are to print out the pdf file, why is it formatted at such an odd size? Why not create the manual so that it fits on an 8.5 by 11 sheet of paper without having to scale each page? That would cut down on the number of pages that need to be printed for those of use who choose the download option.

Hello again,

Well I printed out the manual today, It wasn't too bad, I printed odd pages first, then even, and it came out like a book, but I'm using an old printer so it took about 2 to 3 hours to complete.

The format isn't that bad, it only misses about an inch all around using Acrobat 5.0 Reader.

See ya,Rockit

WOW! look what I started... Sorry SF. lol.

I decided to burn the .pdf to a CD and bring it to Office Depot in my area. I got it printed black and white, doublesided, spiral binder, and cover for around $25.00. I'm pretty happy with it, it looks great, and didnt cost alot for a 360 page booklet. I'm a poor college student and could afford it, that should mean all of you should be able to afford this no problem....right? =P
