Markers and End Action help please DVDAS 3.0a

I have a DVD with 2 sub menus. in each sub menu are 8 titles. i have the End Action set so when it finishes playing one title (clip) it pauses at the next title which is Highlighted. I can either press Enter or select another title. Within each title i have at least 3 markers, the last placed slightly more than a second from the end.

When i play this on a DVD player, and Press Skip (advance to next chapter) so i execute the last Marker, it plays the next title instead of Highlighting and waiting for me to press Enter. I see that last second, then it shows the Button and continues on. When i Fast Forward from the next to last marker (or nomal play) it waits like i want it to. It does what i want it to do using DVDAS Preview, but not in the real world on 2 different players. I am using DVD+RW (until i get it right) instead of a "real" finalized DVD-R--I can't believe that would matter...

What am i doing wrong? i don't have more than 99 markers. they are all placed more than a second apart.

thanks for any pointers,
ron

So that others who have the same problem can benefit from your solution, can you tell us what it was?

Sure--happy to share my screwups!! There were 2 things i did which "probably" caused my problem. First off, i take my DV files from my Panny GS400 and edit them, add Text and Markers, save the .vf file and Make Movie to create an .AVI file in Widescreen format using VMS. It is this produced .AVI file which i drag into DVDAS. These clips are from 50sec to 6 minutes long, and as mentioned, 1 have 2 submenus, 8 clips in 1 and 9 clips in the other.

1. I had Inserted 4 markers per clip. and in the process of watching the videos, we decided there were too many markers, so i Deleted half of them. Then i Inserted one at the end so while watching a clip, if we decided to get on to another, not necessarily the next one, we could hit Skip on the remote, and it would go to the sub menu and the next clip Button would be highlighted. From there we would decide which clip to watch. I think MY problem is--- I did not Delete all Markers and start over. they were out of sequence-- i had 1,3 and 5 after deleting the middle ones. It must have screwed up DVDAS. My Fix was to Delete all Markers, and then Insert new ones in sequence.

2. I never pressed the Load Markers button on the DVDAS timeline window. I always ASSUMED whenever i made a change to the .AVI file it would automatically be used in DVDS. NOT SO!!! i could clearly see the Markers change position when i hit Load Markers button on EACH clip. Who in their right mind would have guessed you need this extra step---not me. This is the final fix.

3. And when i started i Inserted the last Marker too close to the end and it took some head scratching to experiment with how close to the end i could have it and still have it stop on the next button. DVDAS apparently always adds a marker at the very beginning of each new clip, which you canNOT delete. I don't want to watch the last 1 second of the clip i'm trying to get past. IF you insert 2 markers within a second of each other, DVDAS will warn you. This doesn't happen if you Insert it within a second of the end of clip however, even though it is within a second on a continous timeline.

comments are welcome,
ron

hey there,

noticed that you've recently been getting to know the chapter marker process in DVDAS. maybe you would have some insight into my dilemma (look for recent post: "start point" affecting links in DVD Arc.).

appreciate it!
