Markers to Audio Peaks Script?

Grazie wrote on 5/16/2003, 1:28 AM
Hi there

Have we got one for you this time!!! This follows the thread over on the Vegas - Video Forum.

A Challenge!!! Is it possible to "Set Markers to Audio peaks"?

At present to get Markers on the Beat, I'm needing to sit and tap the M key. Not an unpleasant process. But, having a script to "recognise" the audio peaks - say from the Waveform - and placing a marker at this point would regularize this process AND would give V4 an AWSOME facility to place Stills and VidClips on the beat - yeah? One can "see" the audio peak in a piece of music. If wanting the beat, say from the bass line or drum beat, I would firstly copy the audio track, Audio Fx the copied audio track to give/show the drum/bass line, bang up the volumne/db and produce a "clean" beat profile.

I've been using Alexei's Screen Show to get stills to markers. This would then scatter the media to the "set" markers. I've been using this with amazing effect. This is almost there.

If there is truly a V4 limit in doing this, then tell me, and I'll stop, and move on.

Grazie

Sorry, there's no access to the audio data through scripting. Of course, one could make a standalone app that collects the timecodes. Or maybe something that decodes .sfk files.

Doesn't Acid have a beatmapper or whatever it's called? I've never used Acid.

Ah! . . . a Beat Mapper. Will that give markers or something we could use within V4?

Thanks for that Roger,

been trying to get a beatmaped & marked audio file to work when generating slide transitions (see slideshowtomarkers.js at sundance) no luck yet . . . . . .
but i'm working on it. . . . . .

Excellent V ! I too have been caught up in the value of "slideshowtomarkers.js " - really works for what it is meant for - Like your idea on conjunction with beat mapping. This could be a way - yes?

The only help you would get from the Beatmapper in Acid is that you would get the beat. You can place markers in Acid, but when you open the resulting .wav the markers will become event markers (not project markers) and those aren't scriptable.

But knowing the correct beat is a big help I think.

(I haven't tried any of this, so consider it an educated guess...)

Roger, sorry to be a total NumNutz on this - but what is the difference between a "Project Marker" and an "Event Marker"? Can one use the event markers in a script to place stills and clips - same for Alexei's great script? - Only a thought . .

No, that's the problem, you can't.
Event markers are the smaller markers that show up inside an event. That's where markers from Acid will be.

Alexei's script needs project markers (the ones that show up above the timeline).

Blast!! thought we had it there! - So these event markes can't be "recognised" by a script - in any way at all?

But if you use the beatmapper to get the BPM, you can set the Vegas ruler to Measures & Beats, and set the proper tempo in Vegas.

Then all you'd need is a script that lays markers in a regular fashion using ruler marks, and you're set. I'm no coder, but I don't suppose it would take too long to write such a script? Maybe simply something that places markers on the "one", specified in the project properties -> ruler tab.

THAT'S IT! Surely? I knew there would be a way . .

Nice one Luxo!

C'mon Scripters! . . . Grazie

Excalibur already does this. Just set your ruler to Beats & Measures, run Excalibur, and type the proper value into the Marker Wizard.

...about Excaliber, are users entitled to unlimited future version upgrades?

Let me discuss this with Gary and get back to you.

Here is the current plan on Excalibur updates:

We currently plan for updates of Excalibur to remain free - even if minor new functionality is added. There is a new release coming soon with some minor enhancements. The next release will require Vegas 4.0c.
