Drop the mask file into a track directly above the video track you want it to mask. Click the little crooked arrow at the left of the track header on the track to be masked to link it to the mask. After that you have hundreds of settings and options for how you want the mask to function and how it interacts with the other tracks. Play.

ok, I tried what you told me and it works somewhat, now I see the mask superimpose on the footage but unfortunately it's not what I am looking for.
Have you ever use Ulead media studio pro? Just by importing a grayscale jpg file into the "mask" transition I can re-create another totally different looking transition. For example if I import a spice master mask (not the plug-in but the grayscale graphic), it can re-create the same effect as in spice master without having to use the plug-in.
I am sorry I can't explain what I mean better then this, my english is not my native language.
