masking, compositing, and other things that go boink in the dark

Back in the days of V4, I would have my animated black and white mask as a parent track, a video in the child track and another video as a parent track, in that order. This allowed me to use the mask to "transition" from one clip to another.
With embarrassment, I must admit that I have not been able to figure it out in V5. If anyone would be kind enough to help me with this, I would very much appreciate it. To see an example of what I am referring to from V4, take a look at this video which Kelly from VegasUsers.com made

If you are trying to assemble this in V5, open a V4 project, you'll see how it works. The parent track must be in Multiply/Mask mode.

Spot, what you're saying is to take a working V4 project, open it in V5 and it will work exactly as I wanted it to work, correct?
I am about 6 hours away from my Vegas machine so I will have to try this in the afternoon.

Thanks a lot
