Masking is a great feature...

I had an interview with a washed out background. I duplcated the clip and then made a simple animated mask around the person being interviewed and then color corrected the background and also added a blur for a depth of field effect. It worked great and is completely unoticable.

It's really nice being able to do all of this without having to go into a special effects program. Great work Sony!

How did you move the mask when the person moved?

He probably did it by keyframing the mask? Is there another way?

I bet this being an interview there was probably not a lot of movement. It would be cool to see the before/after.

I keyframed it. There was some movement but not much. I feathered the edge "In" and set the feather at 2. I also applied a temporary color corrector filter on the top mask clip and dropped the gain all the way down so I could see clearly on my TV what was being masked.
