Vegas 5 masking is a little more complex than Vegas 4 due to the increased features on nested tracks, etc. Go here:

There's a great, quick tutorial beginning on page 19 which will have you masking in no time (along with 3D compositing).

I got it to work but havn't the slightest idea how - not much of it make sence nor does what I see in the Track properties look like what it should look like according to the "destuctions". I've ordered Spot's book .............. :-)
Strange Story .....
It seems you can't click on the Parent/Child arrows if they are the first track - only if there is another track above it - So now I have a empty video track first with no arrows clicked -
TR2 is some text and has the arrow pointing upward with a "X" in the little green box plus the plugin is set to Luminance -
TR3 has only an arrow pointing upward with a little green "a" in that window it contains a video event which is now visable INSIDE the text.

TR4 contains a video event and has arrows BOTH up and downward with a little "a" in the green window and is visable OUTSIDE the text or you might say as the background.
(there is a audio track below too)
This all seems to work as I want it too but it wasn't fun. Can anyone explain the part about not being able to click on the arrows without a empty or video track above it?

. .. I don't know if this is it - but . . . I seem to remember/recall that "empty track" stuff had a bug . . corrected in the latest build being V5b 160 - what have you got Garo? I've got V5b Build160 . ..

5.0a (build 134) because there were "issues" expressed through the various builds and I have learned to wait and not fix stuff that wasn't (too) broken.

I was thining of putting this up as a .veg on VASST since it is now working as excpected and there are apperantly others in the same predicerment?

A Track CAN'T become a child if there IS NO PARENT.
