masking question

*new to this forum sorry if im placing my question in the wrong thread*

so i have masked a portion of my video, and i already have an effect placed inside of it. if i want to add a transition effect, how in the world do i make the transition effect not be included in the masked portion. ex. i have a hsl effect in a circle, but i want to have the transition effect take over the entire screen (including the masking portion.)

One way would be to create a master track for your effect track and then use the transition on the master.

intel i-4790k / Asus Z97 Pro / 32GB Crucial RAM / Nvidia GTX 560Ti / 500GB Samsung SSD / 256 GB Samsung SSD / 2-WDC 4TB Black HDD's / 2-WDC 1TB HDD's / 2-HP 23" Monitors / Various MIDI gear, controllers and audio interfaces

.. or render the track with the masked effect to a new clip and then use this new clip instead of the original clip with the transition.

If you are working with full HD - then rendering to, say mp4 at 30 Mbps, would ensure a very good quality rendered track.
