Master bus

I'm putting wavehammer on the master bus in a project to keep my audio in control. I render the video to MPG-2 and the audio (at least for my testing) to .WAV. I author on DVDA.

But the audio on the DVD doesn't sound like the limiter is working.

How do I make sure the audio render uses the signal that goes through the master bus and wavehammer instead of just rendering the files on the timeline ?

Thanks for any help.

The short answer is to apply the Wavehammer plugin to the audio tracks, not the busses.

I'm trying to get a nice smooth, overall dynamic, not to mention keeping the realtime processing to a minimum.

What's the longer answer?

There's a signifcant difference between how FXs may seem to work on a buss compared to how they work on a track. Best to look at the processing flowchart in the manual. In brief though on the track the FX is applied before the volume envelopes and header gain control. On the buss obviously it's applied after.

My co-worker (who runs a recording studio in his spare time) applies Wave Hammer on the overall master output.
That is, using the Master FX option located top of the Mixer (just below the word Master).
This is in addition to any other times he may apply it at the track or event level.

You're partially correct. The efx work the same whether they're on a single track or a master track. The main difference, in the case of a limiter or compressor, is that on the master track, they have the value of keeping all the tracks' levels below a certain level and this smooths the sound out. Done the way the big boys do it, this can add a nice professional finish to a mix.

My question is that I hear the effect when I play the timeline, but I'm not sure its part of the render. The way I set the limiter was subtle enough so I'm going to do some tests tomorrow and suss this out.
