"Match Frame" editing

Hi all - new Vegas user...

What I want to do is insert a specific point in an event into a timeline at a specific spot that is between the event start and event end.

An example is cutting picture to a sound track event - Imagine a narration track that says 'the widget then explodes' and I have picture in the trimmer of the widget exploding. I want to match the video of the exploding widget to the narration, but this time point is not the beginning or end of a shot.

I can place a marker on the timeline and then cut the clip in the trimmer to my sync point, then add it to the timeline and then drag/backtime the start point to the previous event end - but it seems like there must be a 1-keystroke command to do this very common edit...

What is it?

From memory - in the Trimmer, I sets in Point, O is out point and A is Add to timeline at cursor position

Thanks Peter,

However this is not exactly my question -

Suppose that I have an empty video event on the project timeline at a point that has a sound effect. The effect is some random time between the beginning and end of the enpty video event.

I also have the picture frame that I want to match to that sound effect cued up under the cursor in the trimmer.

Is there a keystroke sequence that drops the trimmer video into the timeline with the two cursor times synced?

If you position the timeline cursor at the sound effect position, then drag in the trimmer starting at the frame you want at the sound effect, the dragged/selected region can then be either dragged to the timeline cursor, or sent there by use of the A key

Thanks again Peter,

That porocedure is pretty much what I described in my initial query.

I'm just wondering if there's a magic key sequence that does a 'match frame'edit .

If the timeline is cued up to the right spot and your "in" point in the trimmer is also at the spot you want, then typing "A" should add the points where you want them. If you are trying to match things in the middle then you need to think a little out of the box. Do the same as before, setting your In point in the trimmer where you want things to sync and then adding it to the timeline. Once it's in the timeline drag out the beginning of the event to fill the remaining space. Yes, it's two steps, but it's dead simple.

Also, markers you set in the trimmer can appear on the event in the timeline so you can match that mark to a timeline marker if need be. A good failsafe later on and it takes just one more keystroke in the trimmer.
