Match media settings w/ more than 1 media type?

Lijan wrote on 1/12/2011, 7:37 PM
I have 4 different types of media files in my project. For rendering, to match media settings, which do I use?
Here are the media types and templates that VMS indicated to use, when I clicked on "match media settings" and opened the various types:
.jpg - Custom (1920X1080)
.MOV - HDV 720-30p (1280X720)
.MPG - Internet 240-30p (320X240)
And, of course the SONY AVCHD .m2ts media - HD 1080-60i (1920X1080)

thanks

Setup the project properties according to what you would consider the "main" footage. For example, if the MOV files are inserts, the MPGs are some quick inserts, but the m2ts is the main footage (e.g. a person talking about stuff, that the MOV and MPG videos are used to be shown that stuff), then set the properties according to it.

Do not set project properties towards your final export format, e.g. a 720x480 DVD, because generated media and still images do NOT get updated in the timeline if in the future you want a Blu-Ray export and you change the project properties to reflect that. So always set the properties based on the footage that you consider the core/main heart of your video.

BTW, when you're mixing lots of different frame rates, make sure you "disable resample" on all your timeline clips before exporting.

Okay the main footage is the m2ts.
I cannot "disable resample" because it's greyed out.
Also, I'm still having problems with the program crashing upon rendering, even after the 2GB fix as described in another thread.
Any suggestions now?

".MOV - HDV 720-30p (1280X720)"

I'd bet that's the cause of your crash. Try removing the media from the project and see if that cures it.

Post your Vegas version and Quicktime version, and upload some of the original media somewhere.

This may be of some help:

It's only greyed out if also you selected audio clips too in addition to video clips.

Vegas Plat 9.0b; QT 7.6.2 (when I'm working with VMS) as you (musicvid) advised in my previous thread.
I rendered a loop region which did NOT include any .MOV files (a 30 minute region).......left it alone for a couple hours..........came back to computer and found that it had shut down and re-booted itself, and showed this message "The system has recovered from a serious error".
Could this have something to do with the fact that I did the "2GB fix", or is it something else?
"upload some of the original media somewhere" - what do you mean by this?

This suggests something deeper, a hardware issue.
Open the case and clean the CPU fan and fins.
If that doesn't solve it, immediately do a full volume backup to another drive, and run a diagnostic set on your hard drive.
Your error message is not trivial.

An error that causes a full restart is most often caused by a faulty or incompatible device driver. It would be worth checking for updates, especially of display and sound drivers.

Well I did update the latest audio driver and the latest Graphics driver about 3 weeks ago, thinking that could have helped my previous issue with crashing while editing (which was actually hepled by downloading the old QT 7.6.2 version and deleting the Mp4 audio files from the project).
But I will check for any new ones since then.

I bought this computer in April '09 and had the network card replaced last summer - the fan, etc looked okay then.
Sounds like I need to call my computer guy and have him look at it.
Unless ya'll have any further suggestions........
thanks a bunch - this is a great forum.
