Correct, Matrox RT-anything will not work with Vegas.

Let me quickly point out though that this doesn't mean Vegas won't work on your computer. It will work perfectly fine with your existing video card. Vegas doesn't support the (supposed) real-time rendering or capture facilities of the Matrox cards. However, you probably won't need them with Vegas anyway.

I'd also like to point out that you CAN capture video from the matrox in their capture utility & use it in Vegas no problem. However... the Matrox splits it's audio & video into seperate files. So, if you want to PTT via the matrox, then you MUST render the a/v as seperate files.

You could use the copy of crap...er... premiere that came with it to do any of the RT effects you need. However, I've used the RT 2500 at work for a while. Personaly, I prefered using Vegas & waiting for the render.

Oh, you can capture DV via aalog with that card. If you already have the card, then that would be a money saver (no need for a DV-Analog converter).

Wish I talked to you before I bought my new system...

Thanks so much for your reply TheHappyFriar.I own a Matrox rt2500 which I bought of recent.I have the Premiere 6.01 version that came with it but its quite unstableI.I have a Sony CCD-VX1E video Camera and a P4 2.8 Computer.I have known abuot Vegas for about two years now but I had never used it or a demo.I tried a demo just of recent I realised that even without a card it does things in real time especially with the .avi format).I am about to make a decision I would really like to know your opinion or any one here.

I discovered that the ACEDVio card from Canopus supports Vegas and having made some researches I learn it is a good card since Vegas capturs the full RBG 0-266 range (If I am not mistaken with the technical words). From what I know effects (especially third party effects) are not supported by the card, Vegas effects realtime anyway.

Now my questions:
1) Comparying Quality I would like to know if the DVCAM and DVCPro format captured with Matrox Rt2500 is more prevarable to the .avi format captured with the ACEDVio card.I am someone who likes quality and I would not want to go and buy the ACEDVio card when I am not so sure. Also can someone use the format captured with ACEDVio card for Broadcasting?
2) Conserning rendering the final product, is there any solution for a faster rendering on Vegas and does this depend on how many files you have on the time line? How long can it take to render a 1 hour composition.
3)Are there other good Video Effect Pluins for Vegas other than Pixelan and Boris ,wether commercial for free?
I will be glad for a reply coverying all these .... I dont want to ever regret later on
Thanks and God bless you all, and I wish Vegas all the Best.

DaniBoy:
Capturing DVCAM via firewire will produce the same results with any NLE, you're only transferring the data on the tape to a file, I'm not certain how RT2500 captures DVCPRO, if it does it via SDI then yes it would do a better job than the ACEDVio. If you want to capture best quality you should probably look at capturing via component video, say the ADVC500. Problem still is you are capturing to DV25 and that means 4:1:1 sampling but to go to 4:2:2 sampling you need to failry beafy machine.
2)More complex the project, longer to render, we now have network rendering so there is a mechanism for speeding this up but no specific hardware assist. Even with hardware assist the best of systems hit a point where the complexity of the project is too great for the hardware to help much. I think 20 track of composited video leaves any NLE wading through treacle.
3) Cheack out Wax at www.debugmode.com

Thanks farss for the wounderful information and the fast reply, it has served me alot.I have a question though what is SDI?I have just learn from the manual that one can capture using MPEG 2 I-Frame according to the 4.2:2 profile but I don´t know in terms of DVCAM.I capture a footage using the DVCAM format and the qulity was very good but I don´t know if I should capture using MPEG 2 I-fram or DVCAM (or DVCPRO).
Also how does this network Rendering thing work is explained in the Manaul.
Thanks
