Max Available Ram

I recently upgraded from VMS-7 to VMS-8. Under the VMS-7 the software detected 2048MB of Available RAM (Options>Preference>Video). After installing the Upgrade, VMS-8 indicates only 1024MB RAM as being available. Should I be concerned? Is this a bug? Is my new upgrade using only 1024MB or RAM opposed to 2048MB? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

How much memory do you have in your PC? I've got 1GB and Vegas tells me i have 639MB available.

2MB isn't even a drop these days. You need more than that just to run Notepad. My guess is that you don't have enough RAM and Vegas and whatever else you've got running is using it all up. Even if it said you had 10 or 20MB available, that's an insignificantly tiny amount.

If Vegas is running, then you're ok and you can work. However, you're probably spilling over into paging (hard-disk-based memory) a lot and that would be slowing things down tremendously. It's probably time to consider adding some RAM.

Sorry about that! I made a correction to my original post. VMS-8 is telling me that I have 1024MB of RAM whereas VMS-7 indicated 2048MB. I had previously set the Dynamic Ram Preview Max to 500. (Sony Vegas Movie Training produced by VASST suggested Dynamic Ram be set at 1/4 of your RAM) and that setting remained intact post upgrade, however, my MAX available RAM has been reset to1024 MB after the upgrade process was accomplished. Since I have 2GB of RAM, I would have thought the drop down window should had indicated "Dynamic RAM Preview Max 500MB and Max Available 2048MB". I really haven't been able to detect any change in speed as of yet, however, upgrading from 1GB to 2GB wasn't all that dramatic either. Maybe I shouldn't sweat it, VMS-8 seems to be working fine, just one of the Preference windows does not record the correct value.

I have 2 gigs inside, with Vegas telling me I have 1 gig, so I set my RAM Render to 912 meg, with no problems.

Just save your project regularly for a while to see that things are going well.

If VMS anything like Vegas Pro, where you have the choice of dynamic RAM in the options, and "limited" to 1024? You can change this in the internal preferences if you want

Look for 'RAM preview'
