Can anyone tell me what the maximum ram Vegas 9 is designed to use when processing / rendering a project ? The key word here is designed, 4 gig, 6 gig etc ? I have seen i7 intel based systems with up to 24 gig of ram, but . . . why buy more ram than the application will use.
I'm not real sure what the maximum amount is, but I do know that when I was running with Vista 32/64bit and 4 gigs I had my share of edit & render crashes.
I then went and added 4 more gig for a total of 8 gig.
Now with 9.0b and 8 gigs on Vista 64 and 9.0b it is running beautiful.
Just rendered a 54 minute project, 36 tracks HDV on a quad core 6600 in about 6 hours. Most of the time the CPU utilization was 100%. I am happy.
In my experience it seems you will need AT LEAST 8 gigs and a 64 bit OS to steer away from memory fill-ups and related crashes.
