Maximum Resolution?

I have a project of approx. 6.5 minutes. When I render out to a .wmv I get a file of 283 megs.
I would like to increase the resolution since a CD will hold about three times that much. Can I do this without increasing the frame rate? If I go above 15,000 fps then the video studders on many machines.
If you click in the Bit rate mene for ex. 3M then you can then manually specify a higher bit rate - is this OK and will it improve/increase the actual image resolution?

The bitrate has nothing to do with resolution, nor with frame rate. All three things are independant. True, higher resolution or faster frame rates will look better with higher bitrates, but they are not dependant upon each other.

I don't think any computer can handle video at 15,000 frames per second. ;) I think you mean 15,000 Kbps (kilobits per second). This is a very high rate, much higher than that used by commercial DVDs. Since most commercial DVDs are encoded at around 7,500 Kbps, you should already have twice the quality and sharpness of a DVD. There shouldn't be any reason to go higher than that.

If you use higher bitrates the problem you'll see is that the computer can't read all the data from the CD fast enough to keep playback going smoothly. If i'm creating a video CD i usually won't go above 4000 Kbps in order to make sure playback is smooth. If you want higher bitrates you should consider burning to a DVD instead of a CD as DVDs can be read faster.

If you want to increase the resolution then you have to change the image size. The default size for 3000 Kbps (3M) is 640x480. You can change this to a larger size if you wish. Keep in mind however that making the frame size larger than your source video's frame size is a waste since you cannot create more resolution than you started with.

Still having a bit or worries with folks who can't view my stuff on CDs without the video stuttering.

"Half-Pal is 12.500 fps in the Render As under the VIDEO tab menu - writng anything but the preset values results in it defaulting to 30,000 which stutters on my machine. Under the Bit Rate tab you also have Defaults from 28,8 and up - I am using (but guessing) the Internet LAN settings at 3 m.

So how do I choose the 7,500 Kbps you are refering to?

Thanks a bunch!

Since you are using CDs instead of DVDs, i would recommend no higher than 4,000 Kbps (4 Mbps). I'm also guessing that you are using WMV, since MPEG doesn't have options for 28.8. In the Render As screen, choose Windows Media Video V9 and the 3 Mbps Video template. Click the Custom button and then the Video tab. Change the Mode to Bit rate VBR (Peak). Near the bottom of the window will be Average bit rate and Peak bit rate. Type in 4 M for average and maybe 7 M for Peak. Any values higher than this will probably cause stuttering when playing back from the CD.
