Maybe not the best place to ask...

...this question, but I was wondering how to remove a device from the Video menu within Sony Video Capture (SVC). I've uninstalled the device a long time ago, have used web advise to unhide all my devices in device manager, and then uninstall its driver, and have even scoured my drive to remove all folders associated with it. Even with all this, and reboot, the device still shows in the SVC menu as an option. Just curious as to why SVC thinks it's there when WinXP Pro no longer doesn't.

You could boot into SAFE mode and remove it from there. That sometimes works.

SAFE mode definitely worth a try.

If that doesn't do it, it can be removed from the Win XP registry manually. This is a very dangerous thing that requires experience.

If you know the name of the driver and other files that may be floating around causing problems you can use the build-in "find" feature of Windows' Registry. Zap all of the entries for the offending file.

BEFORE starting make a copy of the Registry. To make the process easy, activate your F3 key if its disabled and then you can step through all the hits the find feature will find. Usually more than one. Also if you want to try be sure to start at the very beginning of the Registry with all folders closed. You should only see the My Computer folder and the five H-key sub folders. Highlight (click) on My computer, then use 'find' under Edit.
