I have started a project and have several media bins. I needed to add a few more and noticed that they do not automatically sort into chronolocal order (mine are all dated).
Is there a way to sort the bins into either chronological or alphabetical order?
I'm curious myself if somebody has a better answer for this.
The best I could do when faced with a similar situation was to set up another bin -- "Temp", for example -- then drag and drop all the other bins into it. At this point, only "Temp" remains in your root level. Now, open Temp and drag the bins out in the order you want them, and drop them back into the root. Finally, delete the now-empty Temp bin.
You might also be able to accomplish this by just dragging the out-of-order bins into Temp. For example, if you have 15 bins and the first 9 are in order, just drag 10 through 15 into temp, and drag them back out in desired order.
(But I'm still hoping somebody else has a better way to do this...)
Actually, the new bins I made were still empty as I didn't have time to add the media to them so I deleted them. I shouldn't have as I wondered if perhaps they would re-sort themselves if I closed the program and re-opened it. From what you said I guess not.
If someone else has a better answer, I hope they will share it. Tomorrow when I have access to a printer I will print your response and keep it in my folder. I had not thought of doing it the way you suggested and it certainly would have been faster than what I did in my free time the last couple of days.
I created a brand new project and all new media bins. You see, all of my video files had been saved to DVD - none left on the hard drive. When I learned to do this I was using Click to DVD on an older Sony PC and then the program wouldn't work with the internet software upgrade (long story but I figured it out through trial/error after running recovery). Anyway, I bought Vegas/DVDA and did not know that it would have been smarter to keep the video files on the hard drive.
When I began this project, I learned that trick through the forums and decided to load all of my DVDs onto the hard drive....all 97 of them! While that is probably a small number to some, it's a huge amount for me.
Soon it became obvious the hard drive wasn't large enough. I had an external hard drive but even using that, the drive wasn't large enough. So I did what any logical person would do...I bought an even bigger hard drive. Got all the video loaded onto the hard drive.
Because I deleted the video on the old PC each time, every DVD has at least one video file, named VOB 1 and if I load all 97 VOB1 files into the media bin I have no clue what order they belong in! Thus the reason for me needing to name media bins in chronological order. And the names on the bins match the folders on the external hard drive which contains those clips...and matches my full set of DVDs, which are Lightscribe labeled. Yeah, I'm just a little compulsive with keeping back ups.
So, as you can imagine, with 97 media bins, being able to sort chronologically - or alphabetically should the need arise for a future project, would be very beneficial to me.
Sorry this has been so lengthy but perhaps others will have some great ideas and/or our exchange of info will help others.
