MEDIA COLOR RANGE

Hi, I'm using Vegas 18 PRO I'm having trouble setting the color in MEDIA. The project settings are 8bit full range but in the media settings is in COLOR RANGE by default LIMITED and I would like it to be as FULL RANGE by default. Is it possible to somehow set it or write a script, because now I have to change in the MEDIA properties manually each file from LIMITED to FULL

Are your media actually full or limited range? They come with their own metadata that tells Vegas how to handle it.

List of min/max ranges for popular cameras here and try the test yourself: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/survey-what-min-max-levels-does-your-cam-shoot--84677/

The shots are recorded in 8 bit, but when I change the range from LIMITED TO FULL, the colors will also change. By the way, what project settings will be the best for mixed 8 and 10 bit material?

For mixed 8 and 10-bit I'd switch to 32-bit video just before rendering. Unlike 8-bit full, 32-bit video doesn't read media metadata so you get to set levels yourself using a levels Fx. So for good performance use 8-bit video (legacy) while editing and switch to 32-bit video right before you render. 32-bit full has its own very different color management and you can't use LUTs with it. If you like how 32-bit full works, you can also use it the whole time.

You really need to know whether the footage is limited or full range (16-235 or 0-255)- check the link above for how to figure it out. Get all the media into full range if it's limited for editing (with levels Fx), do nothing to pictures and then do a computer to studio RGB filter on the video preview before rendering.
