Media Generator operation

After not editing for a few months, the other day I opened a .veg file in my Vegas 8.c and wanted to edit text in a media generator clip. I selected and right-clicked the event, then chose edit from the drop down list, but all that I saw was a blank box with no text on the screen, and typing in any text was futile. I even started a new project and dragged down a media generator clip, but could not add any text, either. Am I doing something wrong, or have I forgotten how to use Vegas (LOL!)? Is my program corrupt? Should I reload 8.0c, or move up to 8.1? Should I even use 8.1?? If I do either, will all of my custom settings remain (such as window placement)? I run Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) with 4 GIG RAM, and I believe that I have plenty of horsepower, but why I can't generate text is beyond me. The Vegas manual does not seem to point me in the right direction, either. The ProType Titler does appear to work, though. Please help! I either have experienced a senior moment or there is a serious problem with Vegas.

It sure sounds like it. Something is causing the text generator not to work. I would first start Vegas by holding the Ctrl+Shift keys to reset it. (note: you will loose all of your preferences) If that doesn't work, then a re-install is probably the next best thing.

Actually, 8.1 is a downgrade from 8.0c. 8.1 was built on the 8.0b code base and doesn't have any of the new trimmer features that 8.0c has and, of course, doesn't have any of the bug fixes.

I wouldn't and you can't. 8.1 is 64-bit and won't run on 32-bit Windows 7.

You do realize that you only have 3GB of usable RAM and you really should upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit so that you can use all of your 4GB of RAM. Also Vegas Pro 8 is not supported on Windows 7, it was developed for Vista although it should work fine but you can't call Sony for support.

The Vegas reset (CTRL-SHIFT) did it! I got my text editing back!! Although I lost my screen layouts, I was able to recapture them on the drop down menu. The only preference that I lost was for the TEMP files, which I summarily correct. All now appears to be well. THANKS!!
