Media Management - Library capabilities

I converted to MovieStudio PLatinum Suite 12 about 2 months ago from Pinnacle Studio 16. I have to say that I have been delighted with the change - the performance and stability of MovieStudio has been, well, outstanding in comparison. Hopefully questions of this nature are ok here - searching the forums and Internet has not turned up an answer.

One Studio function that I miss, and I am wondering if it is available somehow, perhaps via a 3rd party add-in, would be media management, or a library function that all projects could draw from? The former Studio Library had an import function that would import the video files and deposit them into date shot directories.

It appears that Production Assistant does something similar for the Vegas Pro edition, is there something similar for MovieStudio?

Edited to correct module name... sorry...

Thanks!
Dave

I know one task I have to be careful of is importing my MOV clips into a pre-setup folder for that particular shoot. Otherwise it will import them into a default folder or the one you used last time on import. Look for the "browse" file folder icon when rendering or trying to manage your clips as you work with them.

Also you can right click on a video clip and import into the timeline, trimmer, etc. I like the timeline import then they will also exist in the Media Manager tab which is where they need to be if you want to back up the whole project.

So, I go by overall type of shoot, year and the name of shoot when setting up my folders.

Other tip: I just found out Platinum 12 can directly edit my MOV clips! I did not know this!

Take care,

Bill

PS: As for as "Media Assistance" I am not familiar with the term actually...

You'll find lots of converted editors from the software you mention here. I honestly remember that the media management in the Pinnacle product caused more issues than it was worth, but if it worked for you, great!

'Explorer' is similar to Windows Explorer and 'Project Media' houses links to the media that is already in your timeline. I'm assuming that you are looking for a way to organize all of your files and pictures? if so, VMS doesn't come with one.

If you have Photoshop Elements and use the organizer there, you can actually drag and drop right from the PSE to the VMS timeline. I would imagine other products with media management (such as Nero or even some free alternatives) may be able to do the same thing.
