Media Manager

am having problems with Media Manager. Vegas 8 would freeze trying to open the media manager. I also tried Vegas 7 and have the same problem.

So I went to the knowledge base and followed the directions removing Vegas 7 and 8, acid pro, media manager, the SLQ thing etc. I tried to reinstall media manager but it freezes on the install. In the program list under the control panel it says it is there. Vegas says not installed.

I even tried restoring Window back 6 weeks. Same problem.

I have spent over a full day trying to fix this. I need some help. I am so far behind on my work because of the HDV problem for which seems to work now after vegas gave us the fix .

This is always a tough one. I'm not sure what the knowledge base said but here's what I recommend:

(1) Go to Add/Remove Programs
(2) Uninstall Sony Media Manager 2.2 (or whatever version you have)
(3) Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR)
(4) REBOOT! (this is very important)
(5) Now install the Sony Media Manager

This is what I have found clears things up.

Thanks for the reply.

The program freezes on the installation. It says in is initializing the database services but never gets past that.

I am about to go crazy with all the delays. First it was the HDV, this and now my Mpeg2 is gone. It is there under my Vegas 7. Go figure.

I'm having EXACTLY the same problem. Starting ANY of my SONY programs freezes at, "INITIALIZING DATABASE SERVICE".......let it set forever and nothing.

Tried to reinstall media manager and it stops at the same place ....

HELP ME !!!!!!!

Sorry-- I've been dealing with this for days-- it is insane-- but my suspicion, as
a Sony FAQ on Media Manager problems states-- The root of the problem may be deleted registry keys needed by a Registry Cleaner type of application-- exactly what I routinely use.

Reinstalling Media Manager and SQL did not help here--
I was only able to correct by reinstalling a backup version of my entire system (Acronis) before such keys were deleted.

Thus, the importance of always having a couple of working system backups.

Good luck-- I know exactly what you are going through, it sucks totally.

I did run my old working system-- and then ran my Registry Clean program-- and it did not wreck Vegas/Media Manager-- and so that alone does not seem to be the problem, at least for me-- and I'm up and running-- so, a big mystery, and huge inconvenience with no solution except to re-Ghost or re-Acronis an old working backup image of the system where everything is fine.

Neil,

Not sure you are still dealing with this but I had a problem like this originally going from Vegas5 to Vegas6 and found the problem was due to the Microsoft SQL engine not completing it's install process.

See my post on this forum:

The fix is in the Microsoft Knowledgebase links in this message.

By the way - thanks for all your great work on the Canon printers. I orginally bought the s900 for home use based on your reviews and also use the Inkgrabber inks from all your analysis.
