Media Manager failed to initialize

Harold Brown wrote on 4/24/2005, 10:45 AM
I get the starting database service window and it just sets there until I hit cancel (i hit cancel after an hour of waiting).
When I first loaded Vegas 6 it seemed fine, then it started getting the server error every other time I started Vegas. Now the database service never starts and I have to hit the cancel button.
So I uninstalled Vegas and re-installed it. Still have to cancel everytime and get Media Manager failed to initialize.
I did not delete the old Vegas 6 directory after uninstall and clicked on over write files when I reinstalled.
I restarted the system and then started Vegas 6 and I sttill have the same problem.
Any ideas?

You have to delete the vegas 6 folder and Sony Media Manager folder (It's located in the folder "Shared Plug Ins")and reinstall.
Hope this works for you, it did for me.

I uninstalled media manager & Vegas 6 plus deleted directories including shared plug ins that are a sonic foundry directory.
That got me to the point where I could re-install everything...thanks...

Now I get errors and media manager will not install

I went back to a system restore point and then deleted every Vegas 6 & Media Manager directory I could find and then did all of my installs again.

Right now everything is working.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

You are welcome. I have my fingers crossed. The upgrade sounded like a great deal; I've used Vegas a long time and am skittish about making the move. Sony is pretty good about fixing these bugs...I reported it. Good luck!

Today Vegas 6 hung up again and I traced it to Zone Alarm. I set Program Control to "Allow" for both Access and Server and lock up stopped.

I have ZoneAlarm and Vegas 6 both on the same machine and have yet to experience something like this. Everything related to Vegas is set to "?". After turning off the check in preferences, Zone Alarm has not done anything when starting Vegas.
Harold Brown wrote on 4/25/2005, 8:46 PM
I had the same settings but "Openning media library: default" would hang and when I clicked the Zone Alarm pop-up box to "Allow" Vegas and the pop-up was frozen until I shut down ZA. So I set everything to "allow" and now it runs perfect.

What setting do you have for Program Control under the Main tab? I have Medium (program must ask for Internet access).

Harold

PS
I have Zone Alarm Pro

That setting is on the default (but it's also on my other computer so I can't check right now). It is NOT the "Pro" version.
